IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English. Over 3.5 million tests are taken annually worldwide. Achieving Band 7.5 or above is the entry threshold for many postgraduate programmes and competitive universities. This is a verified, structured 90-day plan — not generic advice.
IELTS scores range from Band 0 to 9. Each of the four skills — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — receives an individual band score. Your overall band is the average of all four, rounded to the nearest 0.5.
Begin with a complete official practice test — available free on the British Council and IDP websites. Do not skip this. Your starting point determines where to invest your preparation time most effectively. Students who skip this often over-prepare in strong areas and under-prepare in weak ones.
This phase targets your two or three weakest skills with intensive, focused practice — not general English study.
Writing Task 2 (highest impact for overall score): Write one full essay per day. Focus on coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy. Avoid memorised phrases — IELTS examiners are specifically trained to identify them, and their use lowers your Lexical Resource score.
Speaking Part 3: This is where Band 6 candidates stall. Part 3 requires sustained, nuanced responses to abstract questions. Practise using hedging language: "It could be argued that...", "From one perspective...", "The evidence suggests..."
Take one complete timed practice test under exam conditions each week. Review every error — not just what you got wrong, but why. In Speaking and Writing, seek feedback from a qualified IELTS assessor, not peers — the band descriptors require trained interpretation.
In the final two weeks, focus on exam strategy: Writing Task 1 should take 20 minutes, Task 2 should take 40 minutes (non-negotiable). Transfer Listening answers accurately during the 10-minute transfer period. Always read Reading questions before scanning the passage.
A Band 7.5+ IELTS score is achievable in 90 days for students starting from Band 5.5–6.0, provided practice is structured, feedback-driven, and consistent. The Acadevo's IELTS coaching programme includes certified instruction, weekly mock tests with individual feedback, and live Speaking practice sessions.
